The civic exam has 40 multiple-choice questions, to be completed in 45 minutes. The pass threshold is 80% correct answers. Questions split into two blocks: 28 knowledge questions across the 5 official themes (Republic values, institutions, rights and duties, history and geography, social life), and 12 situational questions that assess your reflex when facing concrete everyday situations in France — the latter are never published in advance.

Since 1 January 2026, the civic exam is mandatory for people applying for a multi-year residence permit (CSP), a resident card (CR), or French citizenship by naturalisation. The precise conditions — exemptions, special cases, age — are set by décret and may change. Always check your situation on service-public.fr before registering.
The required French level depends on the procedure; it is set by the arrêté of 10 October 2025. Our explanations are available at all three levels of the Common European Framework of Reference for Languages (CEFR), so everyone can understand at their own pace. A2: short sentences, simple vocabulary. B1: intermediate level, fuller sentences. B2: advanced level, wording closer to administrative language. The civic exam itself has a state-set fee, which may change. We don't display it here to avoid publishing a stale figure — check service-public.fr for the current fee when you register. Preparing, on the other hand, costs nothing with us: the full mock exam, theme practice, and situational practice are free, with your score always shown in full. Only the in-depth preparation is a one-time paid unlock.
The civic exam takes place at approved centres, notably via the Paris Île-de-France Chamber of Commerce and Industry (CCIP) and France Éducation international (FEI). The exact centre depends on where you live and which procedure you're taking. We don't publish a centre directory here, to avoid spreading unverified or stale addresses: use the official locator to find the nearest centre and book your session.
