The civic exam pass mark: 80%, and how to track it
Published on 7/22/2026
To pass the civic exam, you need to reach 80% correct answers. Out of 40 questions, that's 32 correct: the margin for error is small — eight questions at most.
This 80% threshold is set by the rules (décret n° 2025-647) and is the same for all three procedures — multi-year residence permit, resident card, naturalisation.
In practice, it means it isn't enough to "know" two or three themes well: you need steady preparation across all five knowledge themes, plus the situational block, because every part counts.
That's why knowing where you really stand matters. Many prep tools show a flattering score or hide it behind a paywall. We do the opposite: your real score is never hidden, even when it's still far from 80%.
An honest readiness indicator beats false confidence: better to find a weak spot during practice than on exam day.
The threshold and format can change: always check the current version of the texts before registering.
