Civic exam format

The civic exam has 40 multiple-choice questions, to be completed in 45 minutes. The pass threshold is 80% correct answers.

Questions split into two blocks: 28 knowledge questions across the 5 official themes (Republic values, institutions, rights and duties, history and geography, social life), and 12 situational questions that assess your reflex when facing concrete everyday situations in France — the latter are never published in advance.

This format is set by décret n° 2025-647 and the arrêté of 10 October 2025. Always check the version in force on Légifrance before registering.
